		<description>This project was made for my cinematographic language class, taught by Marcia Ortegosa, and as my first video edition assignment i had to cut pieces of movies from the director of my choice and then put them together in a single video. Basically an conceptual edit exercise.

So David Lynch was my choice, and I explored his work since the beginning of his career, taking parts of experimental works that were made even before he was known as a film director.

Bio.Haus.Arts project was my final university assignment for the conclusion of the graphic design course. The project is a multimedia gallery for young artists to display their work which would include design, fashion, visual arts, video and music. It consists of website, promotional viral videos, social media strategies and finally an real exhibition resulting in a unique multimedia art concept.

Creating a unique Identity
The basic concepts were: young adult, fun, multimedia, technologic, provocative. Filtering the words and adding the current trends in fashion, design and art the final visual concept words used were: Fun, futurist, cyberpunk, provocative.
The name had to be a strong one because the project explore strong concepts and ideas which solution wa inspired on "biohazard" word and symbol. Mainly because the project subverts the idea or art as a form of highly (untouchable/unreachable) educated activity and galleries as sterile rooms for those few who are interested in it. Of course that is a totally brazilian cultural point of view on the matter, it may not apply the same way in other countries.
The result sounds dangerous but the meaning may be roughly translated as "House of the living arts" ironically found online and open for anyone to come in without paying taxes or tickets.
The logo followed the same line, it had to carry the weight of the name. In Weight it can start by saying it looks heavy, solid, almost as if it was a machine made in the shape of a heart, which gives the "human soul" to the logo.

&#60;img src="http://payload7.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/2453055/Captura de tela 2012-01-10 s 2.10.23 PM.jpg" width="670" height="308" width_o="684" height_o="315" src_o="http://payload7.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/2453055/Captura de tela 2012-01-10 s 2.10.23 PM_o.jpg" data-mid="13037659"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
Concept image board

On the web
The website is the main piece of the project and it has three main features "News, Galery and shop". The news page objective is to feed the page with daily information about arts, music and info about the project interests, this daily update keeps the site on being accessed.
The gallery would be hosting works from young artist in the format of images and videos which would be updated twice a week since the works and artists would be carefully filtered by curators. And finally, the shop would host crafts and prints of the same artists that has the interest of selling their works.
The gallery is the main reason for the clean look of the website, if the site had a more elements it compete with the art works causing discomfort to the viewer.

How to get noticed
Ok, we have a cool looking website...now what? The answer would be "Let's make a buzz!" and when "young people + arts" are involved it can't be an ordinary buzz. The reason to that is based on the terrible changes human life have suffered during the last decade, years in which our target public have been raised. That changes would be internet and social networks, obviously. Internet have changed more then simply our way of living and communicating, having social networks as true environments, but also to the basis of our cultural values and even to our sense of humor!
So having that in mind, the buzz had to be something authentic, contemporary, young and online! The solution for it was forged on internet memes like nyancat which now has more then 58318238 views in less then a year. And after a deep research, many discussions with my mentor and nights of work, I came up with the video teaser below:

Costume design concept was created in partnership with Walter Castro.
The objective of creating a teaser with memetic language was a bit uncertain, after all memes are cultural phenomenons which in theory can't be planned. So i've tested the results showing to different kinds of people and they were all positive even when shown to people which wasn't considered as target (And i'm not talking about my mother).
Once published the video would spread freely on youtube, blogs, and social networks of those involved and then their friends would spread that on, etc. And thats how memes works!
Having been published on all networks possible, the video would still be used as a splash page of the main site, having it changed periodically, offering the space for those who are interested in creating video art works and displaying it on the splash page.

To simulate that, it was made a second concept video that continues the same language as the first one.

Getting real
All brands at certain point make events for it's clients with the purpose of making new clients and to prove to the old ones that the brand is trustworthy, no reason why a website wouldn't do the same.
For the propose of a event it was planned a real exhibition. which still couldn't be done in a normal gallery, because "normal" is not actually on the description of the project nor it is part of the vocabulary of its reader at this point.
On the list of problems that could appear on planning an exhibition for an independent project like this one, the first one would be "where", the second one would be "money". There are much more that simply wouldn't stop popping up, the solution for all those problems was to make it in a nightclub.
The project is basically targeting 20 to 25 years old artists, which are very interested in having a life (sexual/social) in which nightclubs and bars have a very important role though most of the times are actually frustrating, but still people just notice that when they get a bit older. To make it short: Night clubs are a very cheap solution for that problem and extremely convenient. First because it would be fetching new readers and exposers right from their natural habitat and secondly because it could become a source of income to the project!

With all that in mind it was made a third video with the difference that this one is actually commercial focusing the nightclub clients as well, not only the readers of the website.
To make things a bit more interesting it would be promoted a campaign for the readers or anyone interested in becoming a vip to record a 20 seconds video doing whatever it wanted and using a mask, the best ones would be included on the video. The scene in which appears 4 windows showing Barney and other 3 masked people dancing is that part, I actually promoted the idea on my social networks and i've selected the best ones to dance with Barney.

The video has two stages or layers of advertising. firts it displays the location, date, exhibitors and curator, which passes up the information that it will be a art exhibition to the readers. In the other hand, the following scenes shows that it will be a very exiting party.
To establish the final link with the public and validate the experience of the brand "Bior Haus Arts" it was made an certificate for the exhibitors.

&#60;img src="http://payload7.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/2453055/diploma simulao.jpg" width="670" height="491" width_o="2048" height_o="1503" src_o="http://payload7.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/2453055/diploma simulao_o.jpg" data-mid="13045103"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

And thats pretty much it! After finishing up my thesis and presentation, Bio Haus Arts was selected to participate on the exhibition in Belas Artes university.

Thanks for reading!

Bruno Joanna is a young, talented fashion designer whom i've met during a night out in town, we actually got to know each other through some friends we have in common.

He came to me asking for help to create a logo that expressed his personality and style.

It happened that he was quite fond of the image of moose, so i took that piece of information as my north and after some good research and tests i came up with the solution below, which was the one chosen by Bruno.

H. R. Giger
One of my greatest inspirations was definitely the swiss plastic artist H.R. Giger though it doesn't have much resemblance to anything that i have produced till now.
This illustrations came literally out of nowhere as i've never tried to draw using rollerball pen before. Thought it's not any kind of masterpiece or anything I still think it was a good experiment.

❝Rust, dirt and stones. Oblivious pieces in the heart of the big city❞

Limbo was my second video experiment.
The assignment was to create an video art with public art pieces as subjects. Here in São Paulo we actually have few interesting ones (in my point of view) but i thought it would be another boring cliché, so i ended up going to the Consolação cemetery located in the center of São Paulo.
My idea was to picture tombstones and statues as if they were coming to life, breathing in and out...

For the soundtrack i've used one of Bjorks song "Pearl Hunter".

		<guid isPermaLink="false">1753108</guid>

		<description>Oh well, how should I begin?...It all started in 2006 with...

Cvalda.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1753108/Cvalda.jpg" width="670" height="502" width_o="670" height_o="502" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1753108/Cvalda_o.jpg" data-mid="8623224"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Named after Bjorks song "Cvalda", it is part of the soundtrack of Dancer in dark.
It is the first digital collage portrait that i've made. I did it by using a picture of my friend Agatha and all i could find laying around and small enough to feet into the scanner, like my moms dress (the hair) and pictures of textures. And there is the vector of the gloves as well, that wasn't scanned.

Simple and naive.

It was a great experience at the time, and although it has a obvious lack of technique I think that still has a great expressiveness.

✂----------------------------------------------------------------

Exotica.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1753108/Exotica.jpg" width="600" height="800" width_o="600" height_o="800" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1753108/Exotica_o.jpg" data-mid="8623353"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Exotica was my second portrait, to be accurate, it's actually a self portrait. I didn't have any models so I took myself as model and did this work inspired by Philippe Katerine and Ellen Alien, now this time it got a little bit more complex as I had the experience with Cvalda before, so I had a more accurate feeling about placing the shadows to create the depth illusion, although i still didn't have any decent knowledge about drawing at that time.

✂----------------------------------------------------------------

Sopro de vida.
&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1753108/Palavras.jpg" width="670" height="445" width_o="670" height_o="445" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1753108/Palavras_o.jpg" data-mid="8623358"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

"Sopro de vida" means breath of life.

Again, another self portrait, the same style, but with a different atmosphere. Although it is the same idea and technique it is actually more mature, with a sensitive composition and poetic language.

Mini poster produced for my illustration class.
Colouring of pigeons is a song from the album "Tomorow, in a year" of the swedish duo The Knife. You can listen to it by clicking the player in the end of this post.

The idea of using the raw image of my scanned notebook as a support for the illustration is something that passes a scruffy and accidental look to the composition, which might not look that professional or something experienced designers would approve, but still, i think it was a great match to this song.

Belo Horizonte : RHJ, 1991.

&#60;img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1652806/Poesia visual.jpg" width="500" height="707" width_o="500" height_o="707" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/8810/1652806/Poesia visual_o.jpg" data-mid="8131532"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

 I've researched an english version of the poem but unfortunately I still haven't found it, so I'll translate the piece onwards though I can't guarantee it'll be exactly the same.

❝There is to cry with invisible tears as fishes do.
To feed on silt and dirt moist by its own weep.
To swim in sorrow, lay under the shade of the moon - be surrounded by this fascinating fake of sky reflection in a mirror of water and night.
Then sleep, closed over it self, like a shell, dreaming pearls.❞

This is just a a fragment of the book "Minerações" of Bartolomeu. I remember being at school in a boring class of literature till I had to read this poem and then find myself close to tears. Definitely a strong piece and one of my favorite from that day on.
I came up with this illustration out of an old sketch for a assignment in which I had to create a typographic illustration. So instead of composing it with computer types I've decided to use my own handwrite in a speedy clumsy style, to turn types into shapes, almost unreadable and hard to understand like a poem in it's complexity.

		<description>Portrait of Valentine
Now this is definitely one of my favorite time killers.

I'm used to make photo montages and corrections on photoshop since i was sixteen, time that i've decided to work with digital midia and took a professional course at DRC. Unfortunately i haven't kept any material produced in that time.

My latest work were for two different projects directed by Felipe de Oliveira.
The first one was a photo correction for a photo shoot project representing the "Portrait of Valentine", painted in 1937 by Roland Penrose.

Old Family picture
More recently, precisely on the beginning of june/2011, Felipe counted me in for another assignment. He is currently producing a short movie in which he is going to construct a fully detailed scenery. One piece of this scenery is an old family portrait with the house in which the movie is going to be filmed as the background.

Result:

Amazon Couture.

Last year (2011) was my final year in university, having created the Bio.Haus.Arts project as my final assignment. In between the final reports and final pieces my friend Walter Castro, which is a fashion designer, asked for my help to correct some pictures of his latest creations inspired by the Amazon forest.

		<description>Alright, here is something naughty to be seen!

This was my third video project, the first made from scratch. The assignment was to create a concept video for the TV channel of my choice with the maximum time of 1 min. Vh1 is like a grownup version of MTV and its commercials are known for its mature bold characteristic, normally clashing old school music with the new productions. So that pretty much allowed me to sin in any aspect I wanted.
 My first idea was to picture something punk/glam rocky, sexy, trashy, all together in 1 minute. So i've came up with the concept video below.

This project was possible thanks to four special friends of mine.

Agatha Antunes Teixeira - Model
Felipe Oliveira - Video capture
Thiago Imbiriba - Makeup
Camila Nishiyama - Storyboard

Extra Info about the trupe:
Agatha was a natural choice for this video as we're close friends since high school and we already had experience in performing arts together. She is currently coursing an Art History bachelor at The University of São Paulo and working in a fashion magazine.
Felipe is coursing cinema school, bachelor in visual communication. He has previous experience in video productions and is an amazingly good photographer.
Tiago is a model and a talented cellist of OCAN (University of São Paulo Orchestra).
 Camila Nishiyama is my class mate, partner in crime and a graphic designer with a lot of asian influences like myself.
